Beauty Tip of the Week

With all of the upcoming holiday parties, you may find yourself having to fix your nails last minute. If you don't have time for a proper manicure or pedicure, just clip them and apply a drop of oil to each one. This not only gives the nails a healthier and cleaner look, but also moisturizes the skin around… Continue

In Vogue's December Issue

Here's my page from the December issue of Vogue, where L'Oreal featured four top stylists/colorists who are big fans of their new ammonia-free permanent hair color - Inoa. It was a fun shoot back in August and I'm excited that the issue is finally out! I colored this model's hair from her medium-brown natural color (in the small inset photo) to this beautiful light chestnut with golden highlights. The issue should be on the news stands on Monday, Nov 22.

My Book Galleys Have Arrived!

Last Friday was a very exciting day because we finally received the galleys for my book! For those who don't know, a galley is an early version of a book printed for the book stores and press. It's not completely copy edited and is printed in black & white even if the final book will be in color. But the really cool thing is that it actually looks like a book, which is kind of sureal to finally see after having worked on it for so long! Because we got about 40 of these galleys printed,…

Waxing Facial Hair?

I have a lot of fine facial hair that I needs to removed. How will the regrowth be after waxing? I am concerned it will look thicker or darker when it comes back in. Any other choices?

SPF bothers my eyes

Eva...I had called into your radio program asking this same question. Just in case, I once again tried an Estee Lauder makeup...which I loved, except, the fumes coming off it made my eyes burn and red. I am 54 and do need some light to medium coverage. I have find lines around my lips (despite the fact that I have never smoked) and have to be careful about makeup settling in them. Eye makeup also irritates my eyes and makes them itch, although, I'll admit, I look much better with… Continue

Photos from Paris!

Here are some photos from my trip to Paris in October to work on the Bridal Trends shoot for L'Oreal, where one stylist from each of about a dozen countries was invited to create a bridal hair look to serve as inspiration to both stylists and brides around the world. I'm very proud to have been selected and am humbled by some of the amazing looks created by my peers from other countries. These are some behind the scenes photos of me preparing my model. I will post photos of the final looks…

In Texas

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend! I'm in Houston and Dallas for the next couple of days, doing some presentations for L'Oreal based on my work on the L.A.M.B. fashion show in September. L'Oreal has invited all of their best salons in these cities to showcase their new ammonia-free permanent hair color, Inoa, which I've been using in my salon since spring of this year and absolutely love (so do our clients)! I am doing hair color on 5 models in each city using Inoa, similarly to what I…

Back in NY!

Got back to NY late last night. Had an amazing time in Paris, except that the weather was crappy and I was nearly mugged twice (in one day)! Realizing that it's not really safe for a woman to be wondering the streets of Paris alone... Next time I'll try to go with my husband again.

L'Oreal Professional put on such a fabulous 2-day event! I love this company (and their products) and look forward to working with them for a long time to come! Also got to spend some time with my friends… Continue

Blog Posts

So if anyone's wondering why this blog just appeared on this forum and why I did not add comments to so many of the previous posts from our members, I'm blaming it on technology! When we set up this forum, we decided to link to my video blog and ended up using the tab for the blog that's part of this forum. Turned out that our members were posting and I couldn't even see it! Urrrggg... Well, now we have both tabs and I'll be posting on this blog regularly… Continue

Beauty Talk is on Holiday

Due an extensive travel schedule that I have for the rest of the year, my show on Sirius/XM is on hiatus until January 4, 2011. This November marks the 5-year anniversary of Beauty Talk! Time sure flies and I need a bit of a break... Look forward to returning in 2011 with great new advice to help keep everyone beautiful! In the meantime, let's keep talking on this forum.
Best

I'm in Paris!

Hi everyone,

Been in Paris for the past few days at an amazing event put on by L'Oreal Professional! My second trip there in the past month. I love this city - so beautiful and romantic! In October I was there with my husband and we had such an amazing time, especially since it was our wedding anniversary! We rented a scooter and rode all over Paris. I also worked on a bridal trends shoot for L'Oreal, where they brought in one stylist from each of about 12 different countries to create a… Continue

PPD Allergy

Eva,

It has taken me months of Dermatologist appointments to finally figure out that the rash that had started in November and has been ongoing was an allergic reaction to Phenylenediamine or PPD which is found in hair dyes. My Dermatologist had given me a pamphlet showing all the synonyms of PPD so that I was able to tell what items have that compound in them. They also had a handwritten page showing products that they thought might be PPD free (there were a few Wella products…

Split Ends following Highlights

Following a routine hairlighting of my hair using Wella products at an upscale salon in NYC I noticed that I had severe breakage in several areas of my hair. I have been going to this salon for 10 years.

I always have a deep cream conditoning for 30 minutes following the highlightening.

However this time I had a spray on type conditoning that was left on during my cut because colorist and salon was short on staff and time and felt it was fine to leave the spray on for the added…

Elumen Hair Color

Hi,

I have had an allergic reaction to hair color. I’m having a patch test this week and I’m looking for an alternative ppd free hair dye. I’ve read about Elumen but it is difficult to find a salon in SF…

Estrogen and hair loss

I am 44 and have already had menapause according to my doctor. I have had hair loss and thinning hair over the last few years and was told it is in part due to the lower estrogen production. My doctor wants to put me on the estrogen patch but I dont want the additional hormones, they give me acne and mood swings. Is there any truth in the estrogen/hair loss connection? If I want thicker hair, should I deal with the estrogen side effects?

Thanks
