Dear Eva,

I am 42 my hair is thinning at a rapid rate, particularly in the front.  Since it started two years ago, I have had my thyroid levels checked by two dermatologists, my gynolcologist and my family doctor and all say that my thyroid falls well within the normal range.  I took oral contraceptives in hopes of regulating my hormones/decrease testosterone.  I have also tried minoxydil as well as biotin, B complex and pre-natal vitamins.  Sadly, nothing has helped; I find myself staying home more often to avoid people treating me differently than they did in the past.  This week on your program, you recommended seeing an endocrinologist if you weren't getting answers about hair loss, so I scheduled an appointment with one today--he is a "Top Doc", so I am saying a little prayer.  I also made an appointment with your best friend, Lynn, for a quality haircut/lowlights.  My question is this...there is a clinic 40 minutes from my house, that offers cool-touch lasers that supposedly help to improve hair quality, if not grow/re-grow hair through your living follicles.  It costs upwards of $1500.00 and requires going in for 30 minute treatments 3x/week for one year.  Is there any merit to getting this type of treatment?  It would be a big time/money commitment for me, so I would greatly appreciate your insight.

Thank-you,

Brooke

Hi Brooke,
I'm sorry that you're having such problems with your hair. I'm familiar with cool-touch lasers for stimulating collagen production in the skin, but I have not heard about its effectiveness for stimulating hair growth. I have an appointment scheduled with my dermatologist soon, and he uses the cool-touch laser, so I will ask him about it and let you know what he says. In the meantime, I'm glad that you scheduled an appointment with Lynn. You'll really like her and a good haircut and color can certainly make a bad situation better.

Best
Eva
Thank-you, Eva. I'd be grateful for any information you could supply. At the risk of it looking like spam or advertising, here is the website for the place I am considering going to for laser hair therapy (LLLT)--it offers some information about how it is supposed to work. http://www.renewhs.com/ The center is located in the general vacinity of where your friend, Lynn, works.

Many thanks,
Brooke
