I've included photos of myself for you to review. Let me begin by telling you a little about me and why I'm writing. I am 49 years old and have been a blonde all my life. Natural until the age of 25 when I started highlighting my hair. Now my stylist touches up my roots every 5 weeks, and rarely adds highlights. My hair will lighten after each shampoo and these photos are approximately 3 weeks from my last touch up. My base color is a mousey/dishwater blonde that tends to be ashy looking. I have some gray but it's not a major problem, especially due to the regular root touch ups.
My two questions are this: Is this a good color for me? And what about a style/length? I have had my hair long, short and everything in between. I have had perms, worn it straight but I've never gone darker than it is now. I'm finding I like my hair full and not close to my face. I love the softness of the curls. I feel my face looks HUGE when my hair is straight. I use Fredric Fakki glossing cream after shampooing in conjunction with a mousse (currently it's Tresemme' 24 hour volume).
I have some body in my hair and the first two photos (straight hair) is just after a blow dry, using a diffuser to keep the slight wave in tact. I also used a paddle brush on the bangs and crown area to straighten and add height.
The second photo is after using a 3/4 inch curling iron to curl throughout, running fingers through hair and spraying and scrunching to keep the fullness. I also back comb in the crown area using the teasing brush you recommend.
I have been growing out my hair since last winter. Am I getting too old for longer hair? Is this a good look for me? What would you consider my face shape to be? Is the color right for me?
I would appreciate any advice you could give. If I ever make it out to New York, your salon will be must do while I"m there!
Thank you in advance for you advice! In case you're wondering, I live in Michigan 1 1/2 hours north of Detroit.
Thanks for writing. I think that a darker base color would add more depth to your hair and will simulate a natural, more youthful blond. You should have your stylist/colorist add highlights or lowlights every couple of single processes. Longer hair with soft layers around your face suits you. You have an oval face which means that you have a multitude of options when it comes to style. I would love to see you in New York! My very best friend Lynn works at Lance Vincent Salon in West Bloomfield, MI and I would definitely recommend that you go see her as well.
Thank you so much for your advice. I will definitely visit your friend in West Bloomfield. Thank you for mentioning her to me! I appreciate all your comments and suggestions.
